On March 24th canine resident of Mendocino Zi Zi Gysato traveled to Vallejo and became a champion. Zi Zi reached this milestone in just her thirteenth show. The average number shows to reach champion status is 72. Zi Zi’s first win was in October 2006 at the Sacramento Valley Dog Fanciers Association. More wins followed and with the win points at the Oakland Kennel Club show, Zi Zi has the required fifteen. Zi Zi Gysato is a Tibetan Terrier and lives outside Mendocino with her mom, Tashi Delek, Tibetan Mastiffs, Tsering & Tulpa , Bijou, the Great Pyrenees and host of farm animals such as chickens, sheep and even a llama named Dolly. All the animals rely on the care and friendship of their “person”, Ann Kanitz, owner of At Last Farm Dog Day Camp and breeder of Tibetan Terriers. Earlier in the year Zi Zi appeared at The Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Zi Zi was named Best of Opposite Sex Winners Bitch. The Best of Opposite Award is given to a male and female pair as the best potential breeding pair to continue and improve the breed. Zi Zi’s partner was a well recognized champion. The show featured more than 2,000 dogs of at least 135 breeds. The judge in San Francisco heaped praise upon Zi Zi as a “stunning example of the breed.” Zi Zi’s sparkling personality often makes her a crowd as well as judge favorite. However, even after all the accolades Zi Zi is happy staying home on the At Last Farm.
